He received the Bernard B. Rothschild Award, AIA Georgia’s highest individual honor, in 2012.

Carpenter received the National ACSA/AIAS Educator of the Year Award in 2000 and was later named an ACSA Distinguished Professor, recognizing sustained achievement in architectural education, teaching, scholarship, research, design, and service.
