Some leaders build organizations. Others build connections. Deborah Lanham has built a career doing both—then turning those connections into programs, partnerships, and opportunities that help businesses and communities grow.
Today, as Founder and CEO of Deborah Lanham Consulting, Lanham works across chambers of commerce, nonprofits, corporations, small businesses, government entities, and community organizations, helping them strengthen strategic partnerships, expand engagement, develop new opportunities, and create greater impact in the markets they serve. Her consulting philosophy reflects a principle that has followed her throughout her career: organizational growth and community growth are deeply connected.
From Chamber Leadership to Community Impact
Before launching her consulting practice, Lanham served as President and CEO of the Alpharetta Chamber of Commerce, bringing years of chamber, membership-development, marketing, business-development, and community-engagement experience to one of Metro Atlanta's most dynamic business communities.
Her tenure began in 2020 at an unusually challenging moment. Within months of assuming the role, businesses were confronting the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lanham responded by helping connect the business community with information, experts, and resources as organizations navigated reopening and recovery.
But her leadership would extend well beyond crisis response.
During her tenure, the Alpharetta Chamber worked with the Development Authority of Alpharetta to advance the Downtown Alpharetta District, creating a coordinated economic-development initiative designed to strengthen the downtown business community, encourage economic activity, and deepen connections among businesses, residents, and visitors.
Her tenure also reflected a strong interest in entrepreneurship and innovation.
In 2021, when CodeLaunch was exploring expansion into the Atlanta market, Lanham advocated for Alpharetta as its destination. Chamber member Scott McMichael of Improving helped initiate the conversations, while the Chamber participated as a community partner in months of planning and promotion.
The resulting CodeLaunch ATL 2021 became the organization's first event outside its Dallas–Fort Worth home market—bringing entrepreneurs, technology professionals, startups, investors, and business leaders together in Alpharetta.

It is an example of a recurring theme throughout Lanham's leadership: recognizing the potential within a relationship and helping transform that connection into a larger opportunity for the community.
Creating Platforms for Others to Grow
Lanham's leadership has also emphasized professional development and creating spaces where others can build meaningful connections.
During her tenure, the Alpharetta Chamber introduced Women Excelling, a professional-development initiative designed to bring women together around relationships, resources, knowledge, and growth. Chamber communications document a series of Women Excelling programs throughout 2023.
Her investment in connecting business and education also included service with the Innovation Academy Foundation and the FCS Innovation Academy, where she supported efforts to bridge business partnerships with Alpharetta's emerging educational community.
These initiatives reflect something larger than programming.
They demonstrate Lanham's understanding that leadership is not simply about occupying a position. It is about creating environments in which other people, businesses, and organizations have opportunities to move forward.

A Trusted Voice in Atlanta's Leadership Community
Following her tenure at the Alpharetta Chamber, Lanham continued to emerge as an invited voice in Atlanta's executive and entrepreneurial community.
She served as a guest speaker for ARENCON Global's Atlanta Industry Spotlight at the Mercedes-Benz Experience Center by RBM of Alpharetta at Halcyon Forsyth in November 2023.
Her participation continued through a series of CityBox and ARENCON Global leadership gatherings.
Lanham appeared as a guest speaker for The Trailblazers and The Catalysts, served as an opening speaker for the TwentyFive Series, and later delivered welcome remarks for the CityBox Elite Speakers Series.
Her repeated participation reflects more than visibility. It reflects the value of a leadership perspective shaped by years of bringing together businesses, civic organizations, entrepreneurs, government, nonprofits, and community stakeholders.
